These qualities have not only been useful within singing itself, but extend into my life and into living as well. Nils Bass and Drums I have been studying for the last four years with Andrew. We first began with drum lessons. I had already 10 years former experience studying the drums. But in every weekly lesson from Andrew, I ended up learning something new – whether refining my stick technique with his ”rudiments", or precise timing; “how to count in triplets”; or through the correct beat-placement; “listen to what the song requires”; or through shuffle beats, learning how to swing or even to play using improvisation. In January 2002, I decided to learn a second instrument – the Bass. Here also, through a variety of standard exercises and sightreading (either through Andrew's suggestion, or from my wish), the biggest value being his trained musical ear, helped me tremendously in how to learn to play the bass correctly. With our lessons, my playing has enormously improved and each hour has been interesting, fun and entertaining. Andrew's multi-faceted musical experience and knowledge speaks for itself – minimally, also quite important is Andrew's openness, friendliness and compassion, which somehow, always leads us to a good laugh in the hour! Thomas Bass Hello! My name is Thomas. I am 44 years old and I have been taking bass lessons with Andrew for 7 months. The lessons with him are super-relaxed, but also energetic; there's a lot to laugh about (minimally for Andrew), which then, only makes his job as music teacher even more fun! But besides this element, he works with me intensively and, at the end of every hour, I feel I have really learnt quite alot. Andrew generously acknowledges my personal wishes regarding what I specifically want to learn on the bass, which I find as an exception for a teacher. This may include practically any musical style which I present to him, which I want to either explore or to learn. Frederic Drums My name is Frederic, born in 1983. I come from Hamburg and have been playing the drums since I am 11 years old. Throughout this time, I have been taking regular drum lessons with various teachers. Parallel with studying, I have also played in many bands and music projects and also in different musical styles. Presently, I am concentrating mainly on Jazz and contemporary electronic music. Today, I teach the drums in a music school in Hamburg, to children from the age of 10 to 17. Since January 2002, I have been taking drum lessons with Andrew. In this time range, we have worked intensively on Jazz technique and improvisation. I've learnt a great deal about stick technique, timing, groove and musical improvisation. These techniques were easily adapted into my already-playing style, which, through Andrew's help, has also greatly improved. Andrew's explanations are quite uncomplicated and intuitive, which then become easy to assimilate and act on. Because of this, I feel much more secure with my playing, which allows me the freedom I need to check out new directions, which for me, is most valuable and important. Frederic
